Guardian Program

Being a Guardian

"There are times when we are called to love, expecting nothing in return." - Max Lucado

While Lifeline is caring for incarcerated fathers and mothers, we might ask, "Who is taking care of their children?" We call those caretakers guardians; the wives or husbands, grandparents, uncles or aunts, or even just friends that have stepped up to fill the gap. Individuals that have put their own lives on hold to care for and parent children, not necessarily given to them at birth, as their own.

A second question might be, "Who is taking care of the guardians?" those selfless men and women that become the hands and feet of Jesus in the lives of children and youth with an inmate parent.

At our Returning Heart Celebrations, we've established a program to serve and honor these incredible people. We provide them with health information, do-it-yourself projects, motivational speakers, a good meal and a time to worship God in song and praise. These few hours, one day a year, of respite, are but a small token of our appreciation for these guardians.

It is our prayer that we can continue to minister to and encourage these selfless individuals.  We want to come alongside and honor those that daily fulfill James 1:27 "Pure and undefiled religion in the sight of our God and Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself unstained by the world."
